Synopsis :
T.S. Spivet vit dans un ranch du Montana avec sa mère obsédée par la morphologie des coléoptères, son père cow-boy né cent ans trop tard, et sa sœur de quatorze ans qui rêve de Miss América.
T.S. est un enfant prodige de 12 ans, passionné par la cartographie et les inventions scientifiques. Un jour, il reçoit un appel inattendu du musée Smithsonian lui annonçant qu’il a reçu le très prestigieux prix Baird pour la découverte de la machine à mouvement perpétuel, et qu’il est invité à venir faire un discours.
À l’insu de tous, il décide alors de traverser les États-Unis dans un train de marchandises pour joindre Washington D.C… Mais là-bas personne ne se doute qu’il n’est qu’un enfant. Muni d’un télescope, de quatre compas et d’un squelette de sansonnet, T.S. entreprend un voyage initiatique qui lui permettra peut-être enfin de comprendre comment marche le monde…
Synopsis :
T.S. Spivet lives on a ranch in Montana with his mother who is obsessed with the morphology of beetles, his father (a cowboy born a hundred years too late) and his 14 year-old sister who dreams of becoming Miss America.
T.S. is a 12 year-old prodigy with a passion for cartography and scientific inventions. One day, he receives an unexpected call from the Smithsonian museum telling him that he is the winner of the very prestigious Baird prize for his discovery of the perpetual motion machine and that he is invited to a reception in his honor where he is expected to give a speech.
Without telling anyone, he sets out on a freight train across the U.S.A. to reach Washington DC. There is also Layton, the younger brother who died in an accident involving a firearm in the family’s barn, which no one ever speaks of. T.S. was with him, measuring the scale of the gunshots for an experiment, and he doesn’t understand what happened.
